Physical Description: � Slightly compressed body, with a high back, deep belly � Dorsal fin origin above the front half, and sometimes the back half, of the pelvic fin origin � Medium-sized, round eye � Short, round snout; small, inferior mouth � Pale olive body, silver sides, silver or white belly � Dark stripe on side � Pale fins; some fish may have red color in some of their fins Similar species: � Rosyface chub (Hybopsis rubrifrons) Mean body size: � Adults are 40-60 mm standard length Habitat: � Found in streams and rivers Distribution in VA: � Pee Dee River drainage Food Habits: � Insects and microcrustaceans Reproductive Habits: � Mature by age 2 � Spawning occurs mid April to late July in water around 20.6�C � Probably spawn on bluehead chub mounds � Fecundity is unknown Population Status, Economic, or Ecological Importance: � Only a small range exists in Virginia References: Jenkins, R.E and N.M.
