Physical Description: � Slightly elongate body � Dorsal fin origin slightly in front of or above the pelvic fin origin � Medium-sized eye � Long, round snout, inferior mouth � Bumpy lips � Upper lobe of tail fin longer and more pointed than the lower lobe � Head and body olive colored, thin gold side stripe on side of body, dark spots on body � Tail fin olive; all other fins orange Similar species: � Fatlips minnow (Phenacobius crassilabrum) Mean body size: � Adults are 55-85 mm standard length Habitat: � Clear, rocky streams and rivers Distribution in VA: � New drainage Food Habits: � Insect larvae, worms, and snails Reproductive Habits: � Mature by age 1 or 2 � Spawning occurs late April to early June in water around 19.4�C � Fecundity is unknown Population Status, Economic, or Ecological Importance: � Federal special concern status � Localized and rare in West Virginia References: Jenkins, R.E and N.M.
