Physical Description: � Shallow, almost round body � Dorsal fin origin above or slightly in front of the pelvic fin origin � Medium-sized, oval eye located near the top of the head � Elongate, round, or blunt snout � Inferior mouth � Bumpy lips � Upper lobe of tail fin more pointed than lower lobe � Pale olive body, lower side is silver-white, dark side stripe � Dorsal, tail, and pectoral fins olive; other fins light yellow or white Similar species: � Kanawha minnow (Phenacobius teretulus) Mean body size: � Adults are 60-95 mm standard length Habitat: � Clear, warm, rocky streams and rivers Distribution in VA: � Tennessee drainage Food Habits: � Insects and detritus Reproductive Habits: � Mature by age 1 or 2 � Spawning occurs late April to June � Reproductive habits undescribed and fecundity is unknown Population Status, Economic, or Ecological Importance: � One of the most evolutionarily advanced species in Phenacobius References: Jenkins, R.E and N.M.
